Scent Detection “Nose-Work”

NO AGE REQUIREMENTS

Scent Detection "Nose Work" 1

Scent detection training is the sport of canine detection or nose-work based on the work of professional detection dogs such as a drug detection dog or explosives detection dog. The sport scent dog is trained in the same manner but rather to find several essential oil odors. Scent work allows the dog to use its most powerful sense in a manner that is fun and further builds a bond with the handler as well as improving confidence in the dog.

    1. The beginner group class at Landheim will teach one odor over the course of 6 weeks. You will learn to teach your dog to find the target odor in rows of containers in a timed event.  The dog learns through a positive association that the target odor is rewarding. The handler learns to read the dog’s behavior so that they can confidently communicate the location of the hidden odor to the trainer.
    2. Scent work or nose-work is a very fun and rewarding activity for both dog and handler. We hope that the team will go on to learn other odors in a variety of increasingly difficult environments. This activity is supported in many canine organizations with multiple opportunities for sporting competition.

The beginner scent kit will have an additional cost of $20

Scent Detection "Nose Work" 2

Building on the first nose-work class, this second class will require that you have attended nose-work 1 or an equivalent program. We will build on the first class by adding a second odor of anise. We will be adding distractions in the search area starting with your reward food or toy. We will also add another element of interiors to your searches.
We are looking forward to this new class and future nose work classes and competitions here at Landheim.

The scent 2 kit will have an additional cost of $5

Scent Detection "Nose Work" 3

The third class in the series will require that you have attended nose-work 1 & 2 or an equivalent program. The remaining 2 odors of Clove and Cypress while continuing to refine our search and indication outdoors and vehicle search, will also add more vehicles to the vehicle search. We will also introduce the buried hide element as well as the outdoor area element to our searches.
We are looking forward to this new class and future nose work classes and competitions here at Landheim.
